George Roman Biography:
George Roman was raised on a farm and was accustomed to attending local livestock auctions with his father. Ever since he was a child, he aspired to become an auctioneer. He joined the military and then worked for a trailer manufacturing business. In 1950 George decided it was time to start his own business. He went to a seven-day auctioneer school and started working part-time for two local auctioneers. After gaining a great deal of experience from them, he began looking for his own clients.

In order to support his family he maintained his prior job and worked part-time as an auctioneer. Mr. Roman performed his first auction for an old neighbor and paid two friends to help run the auction. Over the next ten years business grew steadily.

In 1960 Mr. Roman became a full-time auctioneer and in 1961 he received his first big break. He was selected to be the new auctioneer for local bankruptcy auctions. This increased his exposure and resulted in more requests from the public to conduct auctions. In 1964 his success enabled him to purchase a warehouse to serve as storage space and a place to hold auctions.

In the 70’s George III and Ron followed their father’s footsteps and became full-time auctioneers. George also had the help of his late wife, Pauline Roman, who was his secretary, clerk, and helpmate for everything. She would help set-up sales and work side by side with George on everything. Although George handed the company over to his sons in 1989, he can still be seen at many auctions. Every once in a while you can even catch him at an auction doing what he has always had a passion for-chanting an auction.
